RCS is trying to move forward by recycling our resources. Some teachers and students at RCS have been trying to get our school to recycle. They have brought in recycling trash bins in order to recycle water bottles that we use during lunch. Each day when I pass by the bins, I can't help but notice how our school is working to save the environment. It really makes me happy that our school is preserving our Earth in little ways.
Our school really needs to recycle paper as well. Much paper is wasted daily. Miss Jeffcoat is the only teacher that has bins to recycle paper. I put used paper in my backpack and discard it in Miss Jeffcoats room.
The biggest problem with recycling is getting rid of the waste. It would be nice if the city of Pascagoula would have curbside recyling collections. People do not like to bring their recyclable waste to a distribution center. This inconvenience causes people to just throw it in their regular trash which ends up in landfills.
Rockledge High School, in Florida, has been recongnized by The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). They won the “The America Recycles Day Contest" two years in a row. Their school reuses, recycles, and buys recycled materials. The DEP loves this yearly contest because it encourages the students to use the 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
